Liebster Award!

Tuesday, 31 March 2015

Last night a received a message from the LOVELY Joy who blogs over at For the Love of Tuna, nominating me for a Liebster Award! Not only is she a brilliant writer, she posts the most human posts - my favourite is 12 Things That Went Wrong With Our Wedding! Check her out :)

Do make sure you comment a link to your post via this post! I cannot wait to read them all!!!

The Liebster Award is an award for bloggers who currently have less than 200 followers and are working on growing and developing their blog - trying to build their readers! I will also nominate 11 bloggers who I actively follow and love!

My Answers!

How did you decide on the title of your blog, and what’s it about?
I quickly decided on "Funning Up My Life" because I am constantly looking for ways to keep the FUN in my life - and that is exactly what my blog is about! I work Monday-Friday 9-5, so sometimes it feels pretty tough to keep the fun in my life, so I use my blog as an excuse to do it and to help others on their way too!

Where does your blogging inspiration come from?
My day to day life mainly - I find it so fun to make simple recipes, DIY and other things that I find normally on Pinterest!

Can you give 11 random facts about yourself?
1. I have two extra teeth.. I look a bit like a shark! When I was younger, I had some of my back teeth removed. When they came back through, there wasn't enough room for them in their normal places, so they grew next door!
2. I am absolutely petrified of needles
3. I haven't worn any makeup at all yet this year..!
4. Sleep is my best friend - I could literally sleep 40 hours in a row if I wanted to
5. Even at 25 years old, I still don't know what I want to do with my career..
6. I am part way through a Psychology degree that I keep taking long breaks from
7. Road rage is my mega weak spot.. Sometimes, I just cannot keep my temper!
8. I literally have never liked any sports at all, ever!
9. If I could, I would only eat chocolate and drink tea all day, every day
10. Coffee is amazing - but it gives me headaches (even decaff..) so I avoid it :(
11. I always feel unappreciated..

What is something you’ve been loving lately?
Blogging! I know this sounds obvious, but since I only started this in January, I have really been using it as an escape!

What is it you love most about blogging?
I love sharing things I love with other people and when they like it too - wow, it just feels great! I also love how I don't have to report to anyone - it is all mine! Also, all of the friends I have made from all different countries along the way!

If you had 3 wishes, what would they be?
1. For my mortgage to be paid off..
2. To not be scared of needles!
3. I could be permanently slip and toned (without the workout!)!

What is one country in the world you would like to visit? Why?
I would love to really explore the USA. I have been to two different cities (San Diego and San Fransisco) but I would love to have a year and a couple of thousand pounds so I could explore the whole thing!

What are you currently watching or reading?
I am reading "The Outsiders" by S.E Hinton (again!)
and I am watching: Sons of Anarchy, Orange is the New Black,  The Killing, Game of Thrones - I binge on a lot of TV shows whilst I am cooking/crafting!

A long-lost relative leaves you a large sum of money. What do you do with it?
Pay off my mortgage. If there is any left, then save!

What is something you do when you need to take time for yourself?
I blog, clean my kitchen, go for a drive or a scoot.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?
A mummy, married, happy. Hopefully by the time I am 30 - I will have found my dream job (or have won the lottery!).

Chicken and Lemon Soup!

Friday, 27 March 2015

When you are poorly, soup is your best friend, right? I have been off work the last two days as I am not feeling 100% and all I wanted was my mums Chicken and Lemon soup!

This is a recipe my Yaya used to make my mum when she was a child. It is a traditional Greek Cypriot recipe that my Yaya's mum would make her when she was a child.

Now I am a grown up, my mum has passed the recipe on to me and it is a favourite in our house! Greg requests it regularly :)

You will need:

(however many bowls you are aiming to make, plus one!)
(chicken on the bone makes a tastier broth, but I prefer the chicken off the bone!)
2 eggs
2 lemons
1 cup of long grain rice
a block of halloumi cheese
a stock cube

Firstly, measure your water by using the same sized bowl you are going to serve the soup in. Fill it with water and pour in a big pan - repeat for the amount of people you plan to serve - and add one for luck!

Add the raw chicken and stock cube and bring to a boil. Once the water is boiling, if you have used chicken on the bone, it is time to take the chicken off the bone and return the meat to the broth. Add the rice to the broth and continue to boil.

While the broth is boiling away, juice two lemons and crack two eggs into the same jug and mix.

Once the rice is cooked, turn the heat off and add the lemon and egg mixture.

Mix well and leave to stand for a minute or two to let the eggs cook.

Serve with grated halloumi!

Let me know if you try it out!

Stay gold, Ponyboy..

Now that the sun is coming out - I am so keen to sit in the warm rays and read a real book. I have hundreds of books on my iPad, but there is nothing better than a real book with real pages in the sun.

When it comes to books, I have always had my favourites.. And my favourite books are still the favourites I had when I was 15 - and they are written by an amazing woman.

S. E. Hinton

This incredible woman wrote the first book that I couldn't put down - I read it twice in a row. She penned this book as a teenager and deserves masses of respect.

When I was in year 10 (around 14-15 years old), I was handed a book that I was told I would have to write an assignment on. I took one look at the book and already dreaded it. I was way too cool to read! Who did my English teacher think she was?! That book was called "The Outsiders".

My copy of  The Outsiders <3

I threw it in my bag and forgot about it. That night, I was laying in bed (it was already late, passed midnight, I suppose) when I remembered the book. I walked to the other side of my room to retrieve the book from my bag - I only wanted to read the back..

The first line.. I was hooked.. I'll never forget it!

"When I stepped out into the bright sunlight..."

I read the whole thing. I have no idea how long it took me to read - but all I do know is that I didn't get much sleep that night! I took the book everywhere with me - I read it at school, I read it when I got home, I read it when I went out to have a sneaky cigarette (remember, I said I was a cool kid?!). I LOVE this book!

When I finished the book, I would start it again. Even though that was 10 years ago - I still feel the same. I love it!

The stars of the book (who I feel I know better than anyone!) have the most amazing names.. Ponyboy, Sodapop - LOVE it!

Now, I am deliberately being vague about the book. I want you all to go and read it now because my description would not do it justice. Let's just say that after this book, I searched everywhere for a dreamy Greaser and I hated the Soc's!!

There is a film too - with one of the most dreamy casts known to man! But make sure you read the book first.

There isn't a single book that S.E Hinton has written that I haven't fallen in love with - I could happily never read anything else :)

So thank you - you are incredible.

What is your favourite book? And why?

Chia Pudding for Breakfast!

Breakfast - the most important meal of the day!

It is one thing I really struggle with. What am I supposed to have for breakfast that is good for me and will keep me going until lunchtime?

At work, I normally settle with cereal or a banana - but I want something that is healthier and more substantial - but just as easy to access!

Whenever you type breakfast into Pinterest, Chia Pudding comes up. I thought I would give it a go!

You need:
1 cup raspberries
1 cup milk (I used coconut)
3 tsp chia seeds
3 tsp dessicated coconut
splash vanilla
nut butter

Mix all of it together in a bowl - I make sure all of the raspberries are broken up and there are no chia seed or coconut lumps!

The smell is amazing!

Pour the mix into a jar and add some nut butter - you don't have to do this, but it makes it taste amazing!

Pop in the fridge overnight and in the morning, you will have an amazing breakfast!

It is important that you leave this for a while because the chia seeds make the whole mix into a pudding - it becomes almost jelly like. If you haven't tried it yet, you must!

Enjoy :)

Tea - and Give Away!

Wednesday, 18 March 2015

Now, being English - I LOVE TEA! So, I thought it was only fitting that I do a give away relating to tea! I know that a lot of you that read my blog are in fact from the USA, so I have decided to make this one available to the USA too! More info about the giveaway will be at the end of the post.

The key to good tea:
A good mug
I have so many, but all of them are selected because they are nice to drink out of and look good too
A good, clean kettle
If you live in an area that has hard water, your kettle will get full of limescale. Other than descaling your kettle, the best way to prevent this is to empty water that has not been used, but has been boiled and start fresh. I never boil the same water twice. It doesn't taste as good!
Filtered water
Filtered water prevents limescale and tastes a lot better
Water at the right temperature
One thing I have found is that some people don't make their tea with water that is hot enough. I always make sure the water I use for tea is boiling or as close to boiling as possible! (Obviously, be super careful)
Brewing the tea
Tea needs to be brewed. I personally hate the tea bag being kept in the water. Saying that, with some herbal teas, I do leave the bag in. With black teas, it does have an impact on the taste and makes it too strong or even a little gritty.

Now, let me talk you through my favourite teas and how I drink them...

My all time favourite tea is made by Tesco. It is their Vanilla Chai. This is the tea I drink all day, every day! My mum is also addicted because it is soooooo good!

This tea smells deliciously sweet and spicy - but I don't think it tastes sweet. As I don't take sugar in tea or coffee - it is perfect! Let this one brew - I leave it for 2-3 minutes to brew, then I add a little milk - done! I always have this in a big cup :)

Cup Cake Tea's Sweet Banana Honey
Sadly, I cannot find a website for them anywhere - do let me know if you have! I see these in TK Maxx all the time - which is where I got them from!

This is a nice black tea with the most gentle honey scent - I personally cannot actually smell or taste banana. Although the packaging says to brew for 2 minutes, I feel this is too long - I leave it for about 1 minute, then I add just a drop of milk to it - it is just so yummy! I also find that the Cup Cake Tea's are nicer in a small cup - no idea why - obviously just my crazy preference!

Cup Cake Tea's Strawberry Cream! Also got from TK Maxx.

This is also a black tea with quite a strong strawberry scent. This one I like to brew for around 3 minutes. It smells so creamy - it is great with and without milk. The taste is just incredible, like strawberry cream cupcakes (ironically..!)! Now this is a sweet tea - so if you do take sugar, taste it first!

Cup Cake Tea's Chocolate Mint. Also from TK Maxx!

This is kind of a herbal tea. I say kind of because it has got chocolate in the title! It literally smells like mint chocolate - like an After Eight! I let this brew for about 3 minutes - I like mint teas strong and this tea doesn't really get too strong - but it is lovely! The after taste of this is very chocolatey but not too in your face. It is quite nice after a meal when you don't have a pudding!

Cup Cake Tea's Vanilla Cherry, guess what? Also from TK Maxx!

Now this tea is odd - I love it, but it is odd. Now this black tea, when it is brewing has a horrible smell to it. Almost fish like! Let it brew for 2-3 minutes and add a little milk then taaahdah! You have a yummy vanilla cherry tea!

Twinings Spicy Chai!

This tea is just amazing. There isn't a single thing about it that I don't love! This smells spicy and amazing. This doesn't need to brew for too long for the flavour to be there - but I recommend a 3 minute brew, then a little milk. YUM!

Twinings Camomile and Maple!

Now I normally don't like Camomile tea. I think it tastes of flowers..! But this, tastes like pancakes and fills the room with an amazing scent! I leave this to brew for as long as possible - in fact, I normally leave the bag in the cup as I drink it!

Clipper After Diner Mint

This is my favourite mint tea - it is so yummy! I leave the bag in with this one :) Not much to say about this one - nice and simple!

PG's Vanilla Redbush

I love redbush tea - it is so great with or without milk and it smells amazing! This tea is so good. I love vanilla tea - it is brilliant! This is great with milk and left to brew for about 3-4 minutes.

Winners are:
Maple Leopard

Thank you so much to everyone that entered!!!!

SO! Now for the give away!

I am giving away each of the teas I have sampled (and some added surprises!) - and I will send these to who wins - despite your location!

There will also be a small runner up prize :)

All you have to do is to comment on this post with your favourite tea and why!

Can't comment on here? I will take a Facebook/Twitter comment happily - links on homepage :)

Make sure you include an email address or a way for me to get in touch if you are the winner!

The winner will be drawn at random on the 31st March - good luck!

Friday the 13th!

Friday, 13 March 2015

Lucky for some? Well one Friday 13th was definitely one of the most unlucky days of my life..

It was a rainy evening last year and Greg and I decided to take a drive to the supermarket at about 10.30pm.

I made the mistake of saying "OOO it's Friday 13th! At least nothing bad has happened" - yeah, can you believe I said that?

We managed to get to the shops, do our shopping and leave - all pretty problem free! Until the drive home..

We were driving down a long stretch of road (50mph limit) that has no street lights and lots of trees. The storm was pretty bad - the rain had stopped but the wind was crazy.

Up ahead, we noticed a police car pulled over in a bus stop - I had a look out my window to see what they were doing - they were both outside of the car but nothing happening other than that, as far as I could see...

Almost as soon as we passed them, we noticed something in the road up ahead - Greg put his full beam on to see that a tree had fallen across both sides of the road. We managed to emergency stop - just hitting it gently - however, the car driving towards us did not see it and did not slow down, despite us flashing our lights at her!

She drove straight into the tree - pushing it into our car. We were fine - we jumped out of the car to check the other car. Greg is a medic and works part time for the Ambulance Service, so he put on a high vis jacket and went to the car. It was a middle aged woman - luckily unhurt but definitely shaken up.

I was fuming because we had just passed the police - we were sure they knew about the tree - that had to be why they stopped! Why didn't they warn us to slow down? WHY hadn't they shut the road??!

Turns out.. They didn't know. They had a flat tyre! That is why they stopped. They heard the crash and ran up to us to see what happened.

A large van came speeding towards us but luckily saw us and slowed right down - he managed to stop the traffic too so no one else hit the tree (as it was completely blocking the road on both sides).

We had no signal down that road - none of us did - so it was lucky that the police were there, otherwise we would never have got help!

NOW how is that for a Friday 13th unlucky day?! Let's just hope today goes better...

Well since writing this, at work, two girls just got coated in a cup of hot tea due to a nerf gun war.. Both are burned! Friday the 13th strikes again!

Has anything happened to you on Friday the 13th?

My New Organiser!

Thursday, 12 March 2015

When I started blogging, I had no idea how organised you actually need to be!

Although I use various applications on my computer to organise myself, I am a bit old fashioned and I love writing things down with a nice pen in a nice notebook, so I started my hunt for a blog dedicated notebook/organiser.

I searched for every thing I could possibly think of, before I thought I'd look into the handmade side of things.. Obviously, I was reluctant because it normally costs so much more to get something handmade, but I wanted something special so I thought, why not!

Well, my search was tough.. I posted in groups on Facebook, specifically for people that handcraft things to sell - no luck. I searched for days..

Then finally, someone commented a Facebook page name.. Jadamin Designs. The lady that posted the name wasn't sure if they could help, but told me to have a look anyway.

The page itself was amazing. Full of beautiful handcrafted notebooks, jewellery and diaries.

I contacted Jacqui and straight away she got back to me and worked with me to make exactly what I wanted. She was just so brilliant!

Check out the final product!

FULL credit to Jadamin Designs for this picture!

Go and check her out! Currently, she is designing my wedding guest book and it is amazing! I cannot wait to see the final product.

Here, you can find her website.

Thank you, Jacqui!

Home Made Pasta Sauce

Tuesday, 10 March 2015

Whenever I go to Costco, I always get the huge punnets of cherry tomatoes for our salads. They are such a bargain that I cannot resist! However.. I never manager to finish them.

I cannot stand wasting food. My freezer is full of things I have managed to preserve (onions, peppers, chillies, ginger, garlic - you name it!) so I thought about the tomatoes.

One thing I make a lot of is pasta sauce - I normally use tinned chopped tomatoes though, so I thought, why not use my left over tomatoes!

The tomatoes I had left were starting to go soft - they were not off, but just a little too ripe!

In addition, you will need:

Vegetable stock - 2 cups
A clove of garlic
Half a chopped onion
A tea spoon of mixed herbs
Salt and pepper

Put everything in a large pan and turn up the heat!

Once the skins on the tomatoes start to split, I gently popped them (VERY theraputic!).

I then threw everything in an electric chopper (a food processor works better, I just don't have one!) until everything was blended well.

I then picked my favourite jar and filled it!

I didn't can the sauce - I just kept it in the fridge.

This will keep for 2 weeks.

Enjoy :)

The 'You Beauty' Box!

Sunday, 8 March 2015

Like the snack boxes, I love getting personalised boxes through the post! (Watch this space for my review on Pink Parcel this week!)

I googled boxes that are delivered to your door and this website came up! The You Beauty Box. I had never heard of it before - but the price makes it worth a go!

Each box is £6.95. The first payment is taken when you open the account, then the 1st of the month until you cancel your subscription. I started my box on the 27th Feb and was charged again on the 1st March - be aware of this! I am definitely not complaining, but I didn't think that I would be getting two in one week!

Each box, you pick two items. You can choose from a list of 8. They are first come first serve, so choose your items as close to the 1st of the month. You also get some added surprise goodies.

The box looks like this..

And inside..

Can you believe there is so much!?

First out was the first thing I chose. 4 gorgeous floral fragrances from Yardley London. The fragrances are English Lavender, English Rose, Lily of the Valley and April Violets - normally I hate floral fragrances as they smell nasty - but these are lovely!

I love sample sized perfume!

Second, the other thing I chose. I LOVE the brand Good Things because it is such a great brand! They are free from nasties and always smell amazing. This manuka honey face mask smells amazing and I cannot wait to try it!

Third was a lovely surprise - a Nakd Bar! I LOVE these things. They taste so good and are so good for you. This went down a treat (even though Greg did steal the first bite!).

Last but not least, Dove hair care - lovely stuff! I have only used a few samples and never purchased any before. This stuff smells so good. I plan on trying it out when I go on holiday in April - and I cannot wait!

Overall, great experience! I love the You Beauty idea. It a nice and special box! <3

Do you have any boxes you would recommend?

Pink Parcel

Friday, 6 March 2015

Time of the month... Yawn - not that again! It is one of those things that us ladies just have to put up with and I hate it! I hate that men are not taxed on razors because they are deemed essential, but sanitary products are taxed and deemed not essential! Grr.

When I heard of the Pink Parcel, I jumped at the chance to try it. The first parcel was only £5.95 so I figured that even if it wasn't great, it was worth a try! I am a total sucker for online shopping.. And I love coming home from work to find packages for me!

So, I came home to this.. They do fit through the letterbox but the postie sometimes gets a bit worried  it won't and leaves it in a safe place.

When you open it up, you are presented with your smaller boxes and a cute mini bag for your handbag. So, there is a box for bedtime protection, what you request (pads or tampons) and a goodie box!

You get one with every parcel which is so handy! I have one in almost every bag I own (just incase I change my bag and forget that I am due the dreaded!). So cute!

Inside my goodie box was these amazing treats!

Not sure why I didn't turn everything up the right way! Obviously so excited!

First up is the Perfectil Skin, Hair and Nails supplement. This is a sample of 7 capsules. Although it is classified as a medical sample, it contains no drugs or hormones. I am keen to try this one!

These retail at 30 tablets for £9.15

Second, OPI nail lacquer. I LOVE nail varnish. OPI is one brand I do not own any of due to hearing that it takes a long time to dry. Since receiving this, I have tried it and it is amazing! Very impressed - it does take longer than normal, but it gave me an excuse to relax for longer!

This retails for £8.95 a bottle!

Third out is PapayaGold's PawPaw moisturising balm. This smells good enough to eat! SO delicious and the perfect size for a handbag. Personally, I had never heard of this brand before. Now I have done some more research on it, I am in love!

This retails for £5.99!

Fourth up is one of my personal favourites - Divine Chocolate! This chocolate is amazing - it tastes good, it is fair trade and just DIVINE! The packaging is so pretty. Depending on how much of a grump I am at this time of the month, I normally let Greg have my choccie as compensation!

Fifth out are these amazing Bubble T Bath Bombs! They come in a tube with 6 bombs inside. They smell amazing! I cannot believe how good these are. I love the brand - it is so attractive.

These retail at £6!

Sixth - from my research, these are something that haven't yet been released! Bandzee are very attractive hair bands. They look like ribbons and feel so soft! The idea is that they won't damage your hair - which I am excited to try as I have MASSIVE curly hair - anything I try to tame my hair with normally damages it.

Last but not least - my favourite! Teapigs!!!! I haven't found a flavour they do that I don't love.

They retail at £3.99 for a box of 15

Overall - this box is worth about a minimum of £35 - all for £9.99 (after your initial payment of £5.95, it goes up to £9.99 - so worth it)! Every single product I get, I use and love.

They also do a Teen Parcel for those girls that have just started their period - what a great idea huh?! At the age your body is changing super fast, mother nature also decides to spring a monthly bleed into the equation. It can be terrifying and confusing! I didn't tell anyone for a while because I was so embarrassed. I don't think as a young teen or even a pre-teen you can really grasp the fact that EVERY woman goes through it!

The great thing about this is that it isn't baby-ish - it is young woman-ish! I can honestly say that at 25, I would not complain about receiving it over the regular Pink Parcel.

To close - this video is hilarious and makes me laugh!
